Congratulations Natalie Kilmer!!! And shout out to A Word From. Natalie was the only person from her group A Word From, to hang on to the Apprenticeship Program when in March of 2020 the state ordered a mandatory  shelter in place for the first time due to COVID 19.

It was at that time the KPFA also shut its doors to most of us non-essentials as we were deemed and we were all asked to work from home if we could..

Anyways needless to say that it was tough to continue life itself let alone continue a radio broadcasting training program from home. But Natalie did and she graduated in June of 2021. At that time it seemed for a moment the pandemic was lightening and we had a small gathering of 5 people where we honored Natalie for her work and for her commitment.

Full Circle 04-05-2024; Oakland to Palestine to Haiti and Save California Salmon

This week on Full Circle we continue to keep our eyes and ears on Palestine as well as other conflicts. On tonight’s show, we’ll get a short update on an event called Artists Rising, Oakland to Palestine ,a benefit art show and market for Middle East Children’s Alliance. We’ll also have an interview with Save California Salmon. Some salmon runs are down 96 percent, leaving the salmon fishing season canceled throughout most of the west coast. And with the civil unrest going down in Haiti we talked to Pierre Labossierre, cofounder of the Haiti Action Committee about what he is hearing from his comrades on the ground in Port Au Prince.. Full Circle 03-29-2024; Honoring Nex Benedict & May We Gather a Buddhist Pilgrimage

Last week on Full Circle we covered a couple of local events. We heard voices from a gathering honoring Nex Benedict, the non binary youth from Oklahoma who died after an attack in their high school bathroom. Police are saying suicide, but others are waiting for a detailed report. We also heard from a healing ceremony held in antioch ca, “May We Gather”, a national Buddhist ceremony for Asian American ancestors visited Antioch, the first city in the nation to officially apologize for the deliberate destruction of the city’s Chinatown by European settlers in the area.

A doctor shares his thoughts on the targeting of healthcare workers and an organizer from Palestinian Youth Movement speaks on the importance of the day, and the SFPD violent response to protesters. We’ll close out the show with another segment from Block Report Radio featuring Lebanese attorney Belal Chatila talking about the International Court of Justice seeing merit in South Africa’s accusations that Israel is committing genocide in Palestine. They also speak on the self immolation of Aaron Bushnell.

Full Circle 02-23-2024; Teach In on Gaza & La Caravana

This week on Full Circle we’ll hear from a recent teach-in on Gaza held in Brentwood California, including personal testimony from a displaced Palestinian. Also at the teach-in was a representative from Jewish Voice for Peace. We’ll hear how one Jewish person came to realize there needs to be a free Palestine. And a third speaker from the event is a Japanese American faith leader who details how his family was forced into prison camps here in the United States during WWII. We close out the show with an interview with one of the organizers of “La Caravana”, A group of folks that traveled from the Mexican border up to Sacramento, to bring attention to immigrants rights and farmworkers rights.
