Since 1985 thirty-eight generations of people have worked hard to make this program what it is today. If you have been looking to tell your stories, and create a space for your community to tell theirs, then First Voice Media may be for you. If you come from an under-represented community, are adaptable, understanding, flexible, committed, have a positive outlook, and are willing to work in a diverse group setting, we encourage you to apply.
The program is intensive and demanding, with two night classes and one dayshift per week for 15 to 18 months. The projected time commitment averages 20 hours a week. All those selected must agree to serve their respective communities, KPFA, and Pacifica, in exchange for skills development and access to resources. If you are accepted, there is a $50 supply fee due on the first night of class. If money is a factor, don’t let it stop you from applying, we can try to work something out. Your voice is valuable.
Hi! I am probably not on the correct spot. I am an academic laison and teacher for a wonderful small K-5 school in EO – EnCompass – After school program is EnCa. We are working hard to incorporate service learning into our after school program. We are reaching out to the community thru gardens, music, visits to generational homes, and media literacy. Our 5th graders under the guidance of Sister Pamela are learning about media, truth in media, speaking truth to power, and personal empowerment through communication. We are wondering if you guys could come to meet and great our children? It would be the biggest thing in their lives! We are near Hagenberger and International. They are writing a school newsletter and I have talked about you guys and your roots. Could you contact me ASAP?

Allison, First Voice Media provides members of the community with concrete radio skills like producing, engineering and editing as well as allows them to share stories of their choosing with KPFA audience on a weekly basis. First Voice Media is in charge of the show Full Circle as well as other administrative aspects at KPFA. This program offers access to the station and the airwaves. There is no stipend, but there is opportunity to network with people in the progressive radio community and to reach out tell the stories not featured in the media. Our application deadline for this group is on June 10th and applications can either be downloaded from this website or you can pick one up at KPFA in Berkeley. We look forward to hearing more from you!
Can applications be emailed in or do you need a hard copy?
Also, I am getting married on September 30th and will be gone on my honeymoon from then until mid October — will this interfere with the program?

Applicants should apply and the directors of the program will work out any special circumstances that come up. First Voice Media works on an overlapping mentoring system meaning that there are always new groups being taught by old groups. If you don’t fit into this current group, there is always the next one
Hello My names Travis, I’m a young student from the North Bay and I love what it is this radio station does. It is an inspiration to see the indisputable, distinguished passion that fills every minute of every day’s broadcast. This is more than a radio station; it’s a platform for enlightenment, a revelation towards a communal consciousness, an exposing confessional for the deplorable acts of mankind, and an illuminative chopping board where no bushes are beat around and knowledge, fact, fiction, opinion, and every form of expression soak deeply through every orifice like the indubitable saturation of a chopped onion. And you, i.e. me, and everyone cry for that beauty. So thank you.
I understand it is too late to apply for an apprenticeship, so I am curious as to when the next years application process will begin, and what it is in the meantime I can do to fill my application with note worthy accomplishments and standings.
